Be sure not to miss some of the best views of the island from spots such as the old fortress in Corfu Town or the monastery at Paleokastritsa.

Amazing nightlife

Sleepy Greek villages might not be for everyone. Well, this need not be a problem as Corfu has a much livelier and vibrant side to it too. If you’re travelling as a couple or with a group of friends and you want to be able to party the night away until the sun comes up, then Kavos is the place for you. Its lively strip is lined with bars and clubs with enticing music pouring out of them. But if you’re after somewhere a little less wild, Sidari also offers a great selection of bars to enjoy a few drinks in an evening.

Great for families

The island of Corfu is a great family holiday destination for a number of reasons. The choice of hotels and resort facilities means that you can easily stay in one place, should you choose to. But if you want to get out and explore the island, it’s easy to travel around and see what other resorts and villages have to offer too. Corfu boasts extremely clean and safe beaches, ideal for spending long summer days with the little ones. And for more fast-paced fun, there is the excellent Aqualand waterpark located just 20 minutes from Sidari.

Things To Do

Whether you’re wanting a relaxing holiday where your main priority is developing a golden tan, or you’re up for exploring and learning about the area’s rich history, Corfu has something for everyone. No matter what your tastes and interests, you’ll never be short of something to do on the island of Corfu.

Visit the beautiful resorts of Paleokastritsa and Kassiopi and get a taste of the real Greek way of life. Take in magnificent views from the Paleokastritsa monastery or the beautiful sight of Albania from Kassiopi Bay. Head to the popular resort of Sidari and see the impressive Canal D’Amour. Or head to the capital of the island, Corfu Town, and explore the intertwining streets of the Venetian old town.

Take a look at the top things to do in more detail and ensure you make the most of your time in Corfu.

Visit Kassiopi

When you think of traditional Greece, you think of quaint fishing villages, picturesque harbours and authentic tavernas lining narrow cobbled streets. Well that’s Kassiopi in a nutshell. So if that sounds like your idea of Greek heaven, then this should be high up on your places to visit whilst on holiday in Corfu.

Kassiopi has maintained its traditional charm and isn’t overrun by commercialism. The closest thing you’ll get to wild nightlife here is a stiff Ouzo at a charming waterfront café. The pretty harbour is the main focal point of this delightful Greek village and you’ll find lots of bars, restaurants and shops to explore in the vicinity.

Surrounding the harbour you’ll also find a small number of beautiful shingle beaches, which are great for relaxing on or taking a dip in the clear blue sea if you have a good amount of time to spend there. You can also enjoy a great view across to Albania from Kassiopi Bay.

Sidari’s Canal D’Amour

Sidari is one of the most popular resorts in Corfu and if you’re not already staying in the area, it’s well worth visiting for a day. The star attraction in Sidari is the famous Canal D’Amour, which as the name would suggest, is a natural canal created by a series of impressive rock formations. Many years ago, the rocks actually formed the shape of an arch, but this has long since crumbled. Legend also has it that any woman who swims the full length of the canal will win the man of her dreams. So who’s up for taking a dip?

If you don’t fancy swimming in the canal itself, there are a number of beautiful coves nearby, with soft golden sand and clear blue sea, perfect for swimming in or enjoying a peaceful sunbathe. There are in fact three award winning beaches in Sidari, so you won’t fail to be impressed with the classic Mediterranean beach scenes that you’ll find here.

The exceptionally clear waters make Sidari perfect for snorkelling, diving and other water sports. So if you fancy giving any a try, this is the place to do it. Then, after a fun filled day at the beach, you can reward yourselves with a drink and some food at one of the many cafés and restaurants located along the bustling promenade.

Paleokastritsa Monastery and beach

For a picture perfect beach experience like something you’ve only ever seen on a postcard, head to Paleokastritsa beach on Corfu’s west coast. Here you can soak up the sun on the beautiful beach or take a paddle in the perfect waters, so clear that you can see the bottom.

If you prefer to keep dry, you can take a boat trip and visit all the quaint coves and hidden caves in the area, before heading back to land for a bite to eat in one of the nearby restaurants.

Once you’re fully re-fuelled, a trip to Paleokastritsa wouldn’t be complete without taking on the fun climb up to the famous monastery. Perched on a small peninsula mountain, it boasts great views from the top. Beautiful and serene, the inside and the gardens are equally as impressive to look around. It’s still a working monastery, so women are required to cover their shoulders and knees on arrival, but shawls are provided when you get there. It’s free to get inside, but you are asked to give a small donation if you want to light a candle while you’re in there.

Sissi’s Palace

Located just outside the main tourist hub of Corfu Town, you will find a mesmerising hidden gem in the shape of the Achilleion Palace. Otherwise known as Sissi’s Palace, it takes that name from the Empress of Austria, Elisabeth of Bavaria, who had the palace built in 1890. She was a ruler obsessed with beauty and power, but was struck by tragedy following the death of her only son the year before Achilleion was built.

Visitors can pay a small fee to enter the palace and learn all that there is to know about the fascinating story of Sissi. There is no need for guided tours here, as you are provided with an audio headset that gives you a detailed tour of your surroundings. This means that you can wander through the palace and then out into the beautiful grounds in your own time, taking in all of the grandeur and beauty that there is to see around you. Ranked on Tripadvisor as the number three thing to do in all of Corfu, this is certainly an experience not to be missed.

Explore Kerkyra and the old fortress

Classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Corfu’s old town is a maze of quirky narrow streets just waiting to be explored. The proper name for the old town is Kerkyra and you will find the area located in the heart of Corfu Town itself.

Take a wander through the cobbled streets and discover quaint little eateries, independent shops and different street artists or musicians around every corner. It’s the ideal place to get all your souvenir shopping done before enjoying some traditional Greek cuisine in the evening. However, the old town has a distinct Venetian feel due to its past ruling, so you may find some great Italian food there too.

You can’t visit Kerkyra without noticing the two striking fortresses that sandwich the town together. There’s the new fortress and the old fortress, but it is the latter that definitely shouldn’t be missed. Here you can learn about the building’s history and see ancient Byzantine artefacts in the on-site museum. Whilst there, be sure to climb the land tower and take in the incredible views from the top.
